Jewish Theological SeminaryThis institution trains rabbis of Conservative Judaism. It was built in 1930 to a design by William Gehron whose Colonial style was mandated by the bequest that paid for it. Ironically, the new wing you see here was paid for by the notorious Ivan Boesky, who did many things on Wall St. of which the Talmud presumably would not approve. Since the nearby Riverside Church was built by an earlier robber-barron, Mr. Rockefeller, they are not the only local institution in this boat. |
