Unbuilt: Proposed Hudson River Watergate

The word "watergate" has become so closely associated with the Nixon scandal that people have forgotten what one actually is! It is a monumental entrance into a city at a passenger ship terminal. What little plausibility this project had as functional architecture derived from the fact that there were once ferries docking up on 125th St. a little to the north of us, and the facilities there were shabby and in need of replacement. This thing, designed by Palmer & Hornbostel, would have contained a monument to Robert Fulton, New Yorker and inventor of the steamboat.
