Vanished: Old Barnard College

The only thing visible here that has strictly disappeared is that classic gabled Flemish-style IRT station house in the middle of Broadway, but the layout of Barnard College to the left has been so altered by subsequent filling-in of the college's campus that it is fair to describe this scene as vanished. Fortunately, the quad at left has been rounded out with a fairly nice tower by Mr. James Stuart Polshek, a former dean of Columbia's architecture school. Another rather charming picture of old Barnard in the days when the neighborhood was not fully urban.
