Grant's Tomb When New(ish)

This monument puzzles people today, who forget what a big fish General Grant once was. His tomb used to attract more people than the Statue of Liberty. Its spectacular interior makes clear that this is the American Napoleon. That odd pink thing in the background is a gas shell, and New Jersey seems to be a Steinbergian blur for the painter of this postcard. If you look with care along our side of the river north of the tomb, you can see the fairly serious piers that used to be on W. 125th St. Another similar picture of Grant's Tomb.
